Setting up a screen

Getting a new screen onto the line takes about five minutes. The app walks you through it one step at a time — you’ll only ever see the step you’re up to.

A station has to exist before a screen can be assigned to it. Stations (also called kitchen displays) are created in the admin portal by your manager or administrator, along with which order types and printer locations route to them. If the station list is empty when you get to step 3 below, that setup hasn’t been done yet — ask your administrator to add the station first.

Open the app. On the Dnero KDS sign-in screen, enter the Email and Password for your Dnero account and tap Sign in.

If you see “Sign in failed. Check your email and password.”, the details didn’t match — try again, or ask your administrator to confirm your account.

If your account has access to more than one site, you’ll see Select a site. Tap the site this screen belongs to.

A screen only ever shows one site’s orders. If you pick the wrong one, you can change it later from Settings → Log out and sign back in.

Next you’ll see Select a station — the list of kitchen displays configured for your site. Tap the one this screen should be.

A few things worth knowing:

  • One screen, one station. Assigning a station to this screen releases it from any other device that held it. A station shown as “in use on another device” will move to this screen when you pick it.
  • The screen names itself. Based on the hardware, it registers as iPad, Android, Desktop, or Browser so it’s recognisable in the admin portal.
  • If the list says “No kitchen displays configured for this site,” the station hasn’t been created yet (see Before you start).

That’s it — the board appears, and the screen starts showing orders.

If a screen drops back to the station picker

Section titled “If a screen drops back to the station picker”

If a screen suddenly shows Select a station again, an administrator has un-assigned its station from the admin portal. Just pick the station again to carry on. (Nothing is lost — orders live on the server, not the screen.)

Everything about a screen is changed from the app or the admin portal — no reinstall needed:

  • Point a screen at a different station — reassign it in the admin portal, and the screen follows automatically.
  • Hand a screen to a different person / siteSettings → Log out, then sign in as the new user.
  • Adjust what a station shows (order types, printer locations, timers, view) — see Settings.

The desktop app updates itself. When a new version has downloaded, a small Update ready banner appears with a Restart now button — it never restarts on its own, so you can finish the current rush and restart when it’s quiet. The appliance build updates the same way in the background.
